Information is Power!

This section features scientific articles and reports that address cancer surveillance in American Indian and Alaska Native populations. Virtual links to several useful information sources are also provided.

AIAN Cancer History

Not so very long ago, information about the burden of cancer in American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) populations was hard to come by. Through hard work and persistence, the availability and quality of AIAN-specific data has greatly improved over the years.

Many reports of AIAN cancer rates have been published in scientific journals, and more are on the way. AIAN-specific data are also available from several online query systems, such as those supported by the National Cancer Institute and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (please refer to the LINKS section of this website).

We designed this website to provide easy access to timely, high-quality and region-specific cancer data for AIAN populations. In time, the website will also provide annotation and educational information to facilitate the use and understanding of these data.

The CANCER WARRIORS page of this website draws your attention to individuals who are helping to diminish and overcome the burden of cancer in our communities.

We offer sincere thanks the following organizations for their enthusiastic support that allowed us to start down this path:
